The market is flooded with onion hair oils and we often find it difficult to decide which one to buy. Here’s an easy-peasy recipe for onion hair oil that you can prepare at home, in a couple of hours. Onion is rich in sulphur and garlic is abundant in selenium. Both of these are very helpful to stimulate hair growth. This oil also helps to soften the hair and reduces dandruff.
Ingredients:
2 large onions
Garlic 15 cloves
Curry leaves ½ cup
Coconut oil: 1 cup
Mustard oil: 1 cup
Vitamin E capsules: 2
Method:
- While choosing onions for making onion hair oil at home, make sure to choose dry onions. Dry onions are firm to press. Peel the onions and grind to a fine paste. Use 2-3 tbsp of mustard oil while grinding. Do Not add water to the onion while grinding.
- Add garlic and curry leaves [washed and dried].
- Take a thick bottom pan and add the paste to it. Then add all the oils.
- As soon as the pan gets heated, low the flame to a minimum.
- Let this stay on the heat for 20-25 mins and keep stirring so that it does not burn
- After 20-25 minutes, turn off the flame and let it cool completely
- Then using a muslin cloth, strain the oil. Discard the residue mixture.
- Then cut open 2 capsules of vitamin E and add it to the oil, mix well.
- Transfer this to a clean glass bottle and use as you use regular hair oil.
You could also add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to this onion hair oil, once it is ready. But this is optional.
