If you have thinning hair, especially on the crown area and you have not yet considered the idea of a hair topper then I hope you will do so by the end of this article. Disclosure: This is not a sponsored article, toppers have transformed my life and I truly believe they will yours too, if you have thinning hair.
I started losing hair when I was 17-18 years old. I tried everything possible to control my hair fall and to regain lost hair. I had reached a point where I was considering shaving my head so that i could buy a wig and then, overnight, my life changed. I got introduced to the world of hair toppers and literally, in a few minutes, I regained my lost confidence.
And that is why I want every woman [and man too!] experiencing hair thinning to know about hair toppers and at least try one out. Unless you have made peace with thinning hair [who has?]
I purchased my first topper in-store, after a trial. Luck was on my side and the store happened to have a piece ready that exactly matched my hair colour and was also on the density and style that suited my face. In fact that piece seemed custom made for me. One look in the mirror, and my heart leapt with joy. I had forgotten how I looked with a head full of hair and I couldn’t wait to pay and leave from the store to go admire myself in solitude.
Then came the difficult part, going out in public for the first time, with new hair. I first wore it in front of my husband and the only thing he said is, “whatever you’ve done to your hair today, it looks lovely”. That’s all!! No questions about are you wearing a wig, or why is your hair looking odd or fake…none of those. That gave me the confidence to wear it out even more. Yes every time I was meeting friends and family, I was a little nervous that they will notice or ask questions and I was absolutely unprepared with any answers. I don’t know if they figured that I am wearing a topper and chose to not ask, or they just didn’t notice. After 3 years of wearing a topper full time, the fear of people finding out has much reduced. We all have skeletons in the closet, mine is just a hair topper!
4 solid reasons why must consider a hair topper:
Hair toppers are Comfortable and Breathable
You will not know how comfortable hair toppers are till you actually try one. The first time I wore a topper, it felt unnatural and I could feel the tugs of the clips, but in no time, the topper felt like an extension of me. I have always used a lace topper and find it comfortable and durable too, most importantly, it’s less expensive than silk toppers. Hair toppers are designed to be lightweight and breathable, ensuring comfort throughout the day. They are typically made with high-quality materials that mimic the look and feel of natural hair, providing a comfortable and realistic experience. Since the time I started wearing my topper, I have worn it EVERYWHERE, even during my c-section! Also, I’ve always worn human hair toppers, never fibre
Hair toppers Cut down on hair care expenses
If you think that it’s too expensive to buy a topper, then consider the costs of getting haircuts, hair colouring, hair spa treatments and the cost of trying to stop hair fall and regrow lost hair [We have all burnt enough money on this one!]. Ever since I started wearing a topper, I do not have a bad hair day. My hair gets oily 2-3 days after washing, and if you have thin hair, you know the struggle. Greasy hair means flatter thinner looking hair, so you MUST shampoo to get the bounce [whatever little you can]. But with a topper, I do not have to wash my hair every 2-3 days. This has improved the texture of my real hair. And the topper also protects my hair from pollution. Yes, I know that is not the purpose of a topper, but trust me, it has helped my real hair get better. I have some grey hair and my toppers helps cover that too, without the hassles of hair coloring. Oh, and don’t get me started on showers. While others are rushing through their hair-washing routines, you’ll be out of there in a jiffy. Who needs hair wash marathons anyway? Time is precious, and you’ve got better things to do!
You will never have a bad hair day
Even on days when everything else may seem to be not working fine, my hair looks OK. Hair loss and hair thinning is emotionally draining. You hope people will not notice or not comment. You’re always envious of other women who have good lustrous hair. You’re often blaming your genes. You keep endlessly trying different lotions, potions, and supplements in the hopes of stopping the hair loss. You protect your hair from getting wet, because even a slight drizzle will make bald patches visible. In short, navigating hair loss takes a toll on your emotions, time, and finances. For me, my confidence took a major beating due to my hair thinning. And today, I am so thankful for my hair topper. For the people who make it, for the companies that sell it and for being able to afford one. I look pretty in pictures and can just lead a ‘normal’ life.
It’s non-invasive
Hair toppers are not for everyone. You must have some hair on your head to be able to clip the topper to. I mainly have hair thinning at the crown area, so toppers work fine. If you have more generalized hair loss then you could consider a full wig. And if you are not into the daily hassle of wearing a topper and would rather just go for a hair transplant, then that is your thing. But note that for women, hair transplants are not always easy because of lack of sufficient donor area. For me, I was [and still am not] ready to go under the knife for restoring my hair. My desire and hope is that my own hair grows back and I do not need any of these things. But right now, I am pleased with a topper.
A good topper of the size 3” x 5”, 18 inches length, costs anywhere between 6000-13000 INR. And if you take care of it, a topper can last up to 2 years, if not longer. If you have any questions, share them in the comments and I will reply to each of them.
