Hair fibres are a convenient, non-invasive way of dealing with hair thinning and hair loss. We’ve answered some of the commonly asked questions about hair fibres.
1] Can I use hair fibers everyday?
Yes, you can use hair fibers daily, to cover thinning areas and bald patches. The way hair fibers work is they cling to your existing hair and create an illusion of you having thicker fuller hair. This effect lasts for about 24 hours or till you shampoo your hair [whichever one happens sooner]. It’s important to shampoo your hair daily if you plan to use hair fibers everyday, in order to keep the scalp clean and also ensure good absorption of any topical hair loss products that you may be using. Be careful though, using hair fibers can be addictive as it is a very convenient way of creating an illusion of having fuller hair. Ensure that you don’t delay taking hair loss treatments because of your reliance on hair fibers. Also, if your hair loss is progressing and requiring you to use too much of hair fibers, you may want to consider some other, more permanent hair loss solutions.
2] Can you use hair fibers with rogaine?
Yes, it’s generally safe to use hair fibers alongside Rogaine (minoxidil), but the key is how to do it. Most hair fibers require your hair and scalp to be dry before application. So ideally use Rogaine only at night, so that it has been completely absorbed and your hair is dry in the morning ready for the hair fiber usage. If you’re planning to use Minoxidil in the morning as well, prefer the minoxidil foam as that dries off sooner than liquid minoxidil. After it dries up, use the hair fibers as usual.
If you’re using liquid minoxidil, that may be an issue because it takes forever to dry. Another point to consider is that there are 2 types of hair fibers: keratin and cotton. The dye that is used in keratin fibers can bleed on your temples or skin, if it gets wet. Cotton or rayon hair fibers hold on to the dye and do not bleed easily when wet. So if you want to use hair fibers along with liquid minoxidil then avoid using keratin fibers and go for cotton based fibers like Caboki. Use a brush to evenly distribute the fibers, as hair fibers if applied on damp or wet hair tend to clump up giving a less desirable appearance.
3] Can you take hair fibers on a plane?
Yes, you can generally take hair fibers on a plane with you. Hair fibers are considered cosmetic products and are not typically restricted by airlines or transportation authorities. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure a smooth experience when traveling with hair fibers. Consider packing your hair fiber product in a way that prevents accidental spills or leaks. Some hair fiber brands also offer travel-sized packaging, which can be convenient for flying. It is always recommended to have the original packaging or a label handy that clearly indicates what the product is. This can be helpful if there are any questions during security checks. If one is not aware of the product, you may end up having a hard time explaining to them what that suspicious looking little bottle is and what it does.
4] When can I use hair fibers after hair transplant?
You can start using hair fibers after 4-6 months. But the short and simple answer would be to ask your surgeon and follow their advice. You don’t want anything to jeopardise the results of your hair transplant. After any hair transplant, it takes usually 10-14 days for the follicles to be properly embedded. This is the time where you are advised to not wear hats, hoodies or anything over the head. You are also advised to avoid sweating much and too much sunlight. You have to give the follicles at least 2 weeks for the grafts to become more stable.
5] Will hair fibers cause hair loss?
No, hair fibers are not known to cause or increase hair loss. Make sure you are taking care of your hair and scalp by washing it and getting rid of any hair fiber residue at the end of the day. If you’re using any topical applications for hair loss, ensure that those are used correctly
6] What is the difference in hair fibers and DermMatch?
DermMatch is a concealer for your scalp. It’s like the compact powder you use for the face, except that this is for the scalp. The best part of DermMatch is that it is significantly water proof. It comes in a small container and is available in different shades. You wet it and then apply it on your scalp using a brush. Then you can set it using a hair brush. DermMatch is especially useful if you know that you will be getting your hair wet, as it is more water resistant that hair fibers for sure. You will require to use a shampoo to get all the DermMatch out of your hair.
